Nancy wanted her 70th in the afternoon, the same time of day she and Jeff were married, and she gave us the theme in four words: mountain meets the waves. We set it in the garden at the Wheeler-Stallard Museum and built a beach party for 65 of the couple’s closest friends and family.

Guests arrived under a sailcloth tent with balloon clusters, beach balls, and life rings wrapped around the poles, all in the turquoise, orange, and pink Nancy loves. Tables wore striped linens and sheer runners, with beach-ball centerpieces and bright garden roses, and a pink balloon wall that read “Hot fun in the summertime” became the backdrop for family photos.

The details were built around Nancy herself. Framed collages of photos from her home stood on easels, monogrammed totes hung on a custom wall while an artist personalized each one, and a pale blue candy cart offered retro favorites like Mary Janes, taffy, and Dots. The bar poured a cocktail menu named for the family, alongside frozen margaritas, Aperol spritzes, and a cucumber gin and tonic, while a 360 photo booth, an ice cream cart, and a popcorn stand kept guests moving through the garden.

Her children opened the toasts with a poem, friends chimed in, and the DJ kept the afternoon on beach classics. Nancy asked for no gifts, so we staffed a donation table for the charity closest to her heart.
